MANAGING CARBON EMISSIONS

Hydrogen

Global demand for all forms of hydrogen continues to grow. Continued growth of hydrogen demand and the adoption of cleaner technologies for its production will enable hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels to avoid up to 60 gigatons of CO₂ emissions by 2050, representing six percent of total cumulative emissions reductions. Hydrogen produced from fossil fuels, when paired with carbon capture, utilization, and storage can help to decarbonize a range of sectors, including long-haul transport, chemicals, iron, and steel, where emissions reductions is challenging.
