Carbon GeoCycle Successfully Completes Primary Drilling and Testing Activity for CarbonSafe Phase II

June 14, 2019 (Laramie, Wyo) – Carbon GeoCycle Inc (CGC) announced today that it has completed the primary work deliverable under its $3.8 million contract with Wyoming CarbonSAFE to assist in evaluating the deep subsurface geology near Gillette, Wyoming for its potential to store carbon dioxide safety and permanently.  CGC completed the work on time and under budget.

Several deep geologic rock formations are being studied for their suitability in permanently storing carbon dioxideThese formations include potential carbon dioxide storage zones and cap rocks, which seal the storage zone and keep the carbon dioxide contained.  CGC has drilled and technically characterized the formations.  The resulting data will now be used to create geologic computer models in which to test storage scenarios and capacities.

The drilling was conducted on the Dry Fork Station plant site through a partnership with the power plant’s owner and operator, Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The cooperative supports the scientific work being done as a way to further knowledge about carbon dioxide capture, utilization and sequestration. Carbon dioxide was not injected into the well, as it has been plugged and abandoned according to regulations.

The two-year, $12.25 million study, managed by University of Wyoming’s Center for Economic Geology Research, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy under its CarbonSAFE initiative.  It is one of just six Phase II projects funded through that initiative.

About Carbon GeoCycle Inc:  CGC is focused on using its technology and knowledge to sequester significant amounts of carbon dioxide in geologic formations as economically and quickly as possible.  CGC was founded in 2016 to drive safe, affordable sequestration of carbon dioxide in geologic reservoirs.  Blue Sky Group Inc formed CGC by combining a subsidiary having expertise in specialized oil and gas operations with unique intellectual property related to carbon sequestration.
